Prognosis

ALS is progressive, but the course is different for every person.

There is no reliable way to predict exactly how ALS will progress in an individual. Some people progress more quickly, while others live with the disease for many years.

Factors that may influence the course

Everyone is different. Statistics describe groups of people; they cannot predict what will happen to one specific person.

What matters in practice

Regular follow-up, nutrition, respiratory assessment, rehabilitation, communication support and planning can make a meaningful difference in quality of life.
